It seems impossible that all of us who call upon the Name of the Lord Jesus can one day become one holy temple. Even in one small town or one body of believers there are divisions and tensions among believers that seem to make this hopeless!
I remember the testimony of a man who was in a building that was bombed during World War II. Crawling through the rubble, he came upon one other person who was alive. He told of the unusual joy that came upon both of them, just to find another living being. There were no questions asked, just hands clasped in a new found union. That man’s testimony has remained with me for years. It makes me wonder what it may take to bring us all together as one in the closing of this age.
Could it be that the tribulation of the final years, brought about by the wrath of the anti-Christ, will cause us to acknowledge and love one another with a unity never before known? A word in one of Daniel’s visions seems to indicate that something the anti-Christ will do might help bring this to pass. In Daniel 8:13,14 there is reference to the sanctuary (the holy place) being trodden under foot. But then, after a relatively short time that holy place shall be cleansed. The destruction, “the wicked one” hoped to accomplish will result, instead, in the cleansing of the temple. Could it be that this fits in with what Paul has told us in II Corinthians 6:15—7:1?
GRACIOUS LORD, I expect the pressures of the closing days will bring Your people to a new place of holiness and unity. Please work in us now, before the time of trouble comes too heavily upon us. Move by Your Spirit in all of us. Let the sweet moving of Your Spirit bring about a unity in us now, so we won’t have to wait for the days of tribulation that Jesus said would come.
